Why do most atheists in debates with theists take Bible verses out of context much of the time? Are they lying maliciously or do they not understand theology enough to understand the meaning?

Until Christians sort out their differences, I don’t think accusing atheists of not understanding theology credible in the least.
I have yet to meet any Christians who are in full agreement on how to interpret Bible passages. The don’t agree on whether admittance to heaven is based on faith or act, whether hell really exists, and the Trinity (Are Jesus and God one in the same?). There are young earthers and flat earther. And of course this will be dismissed by saying that any who don’t agree with you personally aren’t true Christians.
